Ajaccio Airport Access

The Ajaccio Airport, unlike many other low cost airports is close to the city for which it is named – Ajaccio. The Ajaccio Airport is located about 2.5 miles/5 kilometres from Ajaccio. But the centre of Ajaccio is a little farther as Ajaccio is positioned between the Mediterranean Sea and mountains so the city is long and thin. Also it’s good to know that if you are driving into or out of the centre of Ajaccio when a ferry has arrived go can get stuck in traffic, increasing your driving time greatly.
The official name of the airport is Napoléon Bonaparte and most signs to the airport use this name. But there are a few signs marked Campo dell'Oro. The road to the airport is next to a beach.

The airport is about 15 minutes by car from Ajaccio. To get to Ajaccio when you leave the airport follow the signs ‘Toutes Directionsdrive along a road with the beach/sea to your left. You will come to a roundabout. Ajaccio, along with Bastia, Bonifacio and Calvi will be posted. Note that all signs in Corsica list communities in French and Corsican, with the French above Corsican. Communities where the French and Corsican name is the same, of course don’t. It’s not uncommon to see French names spray painted over.
The airport is in the Corse du Sud (2A*) department of France on the Island of Corsica.

There is regular bus service between the city of Ajaccio and the airport. The stop at the airport is to the right when you exit the terminal. Buses run everyday and leave about one per hour, depending on the time of day. The trip to Ajaccio takes about 20 minutes with a cost of 4.50 €. Bus stops include the bus station (Gare Routiere), and the train station (Gare SNCF). The stop at the train station going to the airport is across from the station. The stop coming from the airport in front of the station.

There is a taxi rank to the right when you exit the terminal airport. The cost to Ajaccio is about 10 €. The price can change depending on when (at night, Sundays and bank holidays are the most expensive) you travel and the number of passengers and luggage. The 2010 taxi price per kilometre at the airport was €1.84 and €2.76 at night, Sundays and bank holidays.

* The department number of the Corse du Sud is 2A but 20 is used as the first two digits in postcodes.
